Netflix is a double-edged sword, especially when it comes to series. For every major success spanning multiple seasons, there are several titles that get canceled prematurely, leaving fans with nothing but frustration. Movies are a bit different, as they generally can’t be cut off midway. In the best case, sequels are in the cards. As it is now circulating, Netflix is planning “War Machine 2.”
Will Alan Ritchson return for “War Machine 2”?
This is now being reported by the U.S. industry magazine “Variety.” According to them, Netflix is moving forward with “War Machine 2” with key returnees. This includes director Patrick Hughes, who is also contributing to the script again and taking on a producer role. James Beaufort will also return as a co-writer, having previously collaborated with Hughes multiple times.
However, it is currently unclear whether lead actor Alan Ritchson will return in front of the cameras. In the first part, he played a staff sergeant with the number 81, who, along with his comrades, encounters deadly invaders from space during an exercise and must confront them. There are also no details about other actors at this time.
“War Machine” is a mega-hit for Netflix
Details about the story are also scarce at the moment. However, the end of the first part was quite open, leaving many possibilities to pick up directly from there. Regardless of how the plot unfolds, the chances of another success are certainly favorable.

Since its release on March 26, 2026, “War Machine” has garnered 139 million views for the streaming service. It currently ranks 10th among the most successful Netflix films of all time. As the company considers the numbers from the first three months for the final ranking, the sci-fi blockbuster could still move up to ninth place. It is currently only about 300,000 views behind “The Gray Man” with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans.
