Disney has created many iconic characters, such as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. But few are as cool as Darkwing Duck, the superhero on a crime-fighting mission. The Batman parody in duck form experienced many exciting adventures in the 91 episodes of the series of the same name and shaped an entire generation of children and teenagers in the ’90s. Now, the title character is set for a comeback.
New “Darkwing Duck” Series Planned for Years
As reported by the U.S. trade magazine “Variety,” a new “Darkwing Duck” series has finally received the green light for production. Unsurprisingly, it is set to premiere exclusively on Disney+. This marks the end of a six-year planning and development phase at the streaming service.

The U.S. original has already secured an illustrious cast of voice actors. Leading the cast is “Star Wars” legend Mark Hamill, who has long been successful as a voice actor for animation projects and is especially popular as the voice of the Joker in “Batman” series. He lends his distinctive voice to Drake Mallard, aka Darkwing Duck.
Other confirmed stars include Seth Rogen (“The Studio”), Lizzy Caplan (“Castle Rock”), Dan Stevens (“Beauty and the Beast”), and Kathryn Newton (“The Devil’s Mouth”).
What “Darkwing Duck” Is About
Of course, the title character is set to fight crime once again. But this time, the starting situation is different. Darkwing Duck has been stuck in a parallel world for 35 years, where almost no one has heard of his heroic deeds–a blow to his ego.
Fortunately, there’s the teenager Duckie, who knows all about Darkwing’s extraordinary past and wants to bring the veteran back into action. Together, the unlikely duo takes risks to thwart old adversaries like Negaduck and Megavolt and reunite with old friends like Launchpad, Gosalyn, and Morgana.

Tad Stones, creator of the original series, served as a consultant for the new project and promises more action and humor, without forgetting the “Disney heart.” There is no release date yet.
