What are Netflix customers currently streaming the most? Anyone who regularly checks the charts has likely noticed one title that stands out: “Below.” The Netflix series is very popular in many places and consistently ranks high on best lists worldwide–but is it deserved?
“Below” Dominates Netflix Charts
This is evident from an overview on Flixpatrol, where the success of streaming series and films is tracked. For Netflix, the new series “Below” is clearly at the top, and it has been since its release on October 8.
Just one day later, the title reached No. 1 in the charts in 70 countries, and by the second day, it was in 83 countries. As of October 15, it remains in an impressive 81 countries, including Germany.
New Record for Netflix
It’s not just strong chart positions for “Below.” In fact, Netflix achieved a new milestone, as reported by the U.S. industry publication “Deadline.”
In the first weekend alone, there were 17 million views. This made the series the best debut of a Canadian production ever.

What “Below” Is About
“Below” seems to have struck a chord and promises thrilling entertainment on and in the water.
In a remote coastal town in Newfoundland, the life of a stubborn yet caring fisherman is overshadowed by an old family mystery. Decades after the mysterious death of his father, a dangerous sea creature appears off the island. To save his son, his loved ones, and the village community, he teams up with a marine research expert. Their search for answers leads deep into the town’s past.
How Good Is “Below” Really?
The viewership numbers speak for themselves, but is “Below” really worth watching? As is often the case, there are two camps–the critics and the fans. On Rotten Tomatoes, for example, an excellent 87 percent of all professional reviews are positive. In contrast, only an average of 55 percent of series fans share the press’s enthusiasm. With an average rating of 3.1 out of 5 stars, Letterboxd paints a similar, only slightly above-average picture.
Universal enthusiasm looks different, but the positive response, especially from journalists, at least suggests an entertaining pastime that one can safely check out for themselves.
