What comics and superheroes once were for Hollywood (and to some extent still are) is now increasingly shifting toward video games. Currently, there seems to be a veritable race for the next big adaptation for cinema or streaming, as hits like “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” demonstrate. And now there’s a rumor that a series based on “Persona” is in the works at Netflix.
“Persona” Becomes a Live-Action Series at Netflix
This is reported by the usually well-informed U.S. industry magazine “Variety.” According to unnamed insider sources, a series adaptation of “Persona” is in development at Netflix. The streaming provider declined to comment, so the project is not officially confirmed.
If there’s any truth to it, a live-action series of “Persona” is set to be produced at Netflix. This is noteworthy because the games are known for their anime-style aesthetics and have unsurprisingly already been adapted into anime series and films. The idea of a live-action adaptation was expressed by publisher Sega back in 2022 in an interview with “IGN.” Now it seems to be becoming a reality.

Sega has found the right partner in Netflix. The company has previously achieved great success with both live-action adaptations of formerly animated content (such as “One Piece”) and game-based content in general, winning over fans and critics alike. This includes well-known hits like “The Witcher,” “Arcane,” “Castlevania,” and “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.” Currently, a series based on “Assassin’s Creed” is also in the works at Netflix.
With “Persona,” Netflix can already count on a large and loyal fan base. With more than 30 million units sold across six main titles and 15 spin-offs since 1996, “Persona” has proven to be highly enduring and successful. Additionally, it has received numerous awards and nominations. While the stories vary, they typically revolve around students who must manage their daily lives while also dealing with supernatural threats.
“Stranger Things” Creators on Board
Behind the scenes, there are already some key personnel announcements. Christopher Monfette (“Star Trek: Picard”) is set to take the creative lead for “Persona” at Netflix as the head writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

Additionally, Shawn Levy is also on board as a producer. Levy has numerous major film and TV projects under his belt, including “Stranger Things” and the mega-blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which he also directed. Toru Nakahara will represent Sega as an executive producer on the project.
