Every month, Netflix releases numerous new movies and especially series, vying for viewers’ attention. Many don’t even make it to renewal, but others become popular hits with multiple seasons. One of these is “Lincoln Lawyer,” which will soon come to an end. Fans still have reason to be happy, as a spin-off is now surprisingly in the works.
“Lincoln Lawyer” Spin-off Excites Netflix
This is reported by the U.S. industry magazine “Deadline.” According to them, the project currently seems to be a high priority at Netflix, as the executives allegedly want to fast-track it. Nevertheless, it is still in a fairly early stage.
Ted Humphrey, Daily Rodriguez, and Matthew J. Lieberman, all executive producers on “Lincoln Lawyer,” are back on board as screenwriters. Humphrey and Rodriguez were also co-creators of the original alongside David E. Kelley.
According to the report, the trio worked on a pitch and recently presented it to Netflix. It was reportedly so well-received that the streamer bought the project during the meeting and commissioned a first script.
She Will Be the Focus
“Lincoln Lawyer” follows the titular lawyer who conducts his practice from the backseat of his car (a Lincoln). At the end of the fourth season, he meets his half-sister Emi, who will play a central role in the fifth season.
The planned spin-off will also revolve around her. There are no specific plot details yet. However, it is confirmed that Cobie Smulders (“Avengers”) will continue her role as Emi. The character is a pure series invention and does not exist in Michael Connelly’s book series, which features the half-brother Harry Bosch. Amazon holds the rights to Bosch, where a separate series has been developed. Emi fills this family gap in the main series and will now have her own show.

Although Netflix wants to push the project forward quickly, a start of filming is not yet guaranteed. Several contracts for key roles behind the scenes still need to be finalized. Meanwhile, “Lincoln Lawyer” is heading into its fifth and final season. A release date has not been announced yet.
