Work on the second season of the hit series “One Piece” is already in full swing. In addition to the existing cast, the actors for new villains and allies have also been announced. TECHBOOK provides an overview of the cast, plot, and premiere of the second season of “One Piece.”
“One Piece” is not only the most successful manga in the world, but the anime is also extremely popular. However, this was by no means a guarantee of success when streaming giant Netflix announced plans to adapt “One Piece” into a live-action series—quite the opposite. Since then, every little piece of new information has sparked speculation about whether the series could withstand the enormous pressure. After the premiere of the first season, it must be said clearly: It can. Positive reviews and significant media presence set the stage well for “One Piece” Season 2. But what is known so far about the continuation?
Overview
When is “One Piece” Season 2 coming?
As reported by “Deadline,” the second season is set to premiere on Netflix on March 10, 2026. Netflix confirmed the continuation in September 2023, about two weeks after the first season’s debut. The production is once again handled by Tomorrow Studios, a partner of ITV Studios, in collaboration with Shueisha, the Japanese publisher of the original manga.
With a budget of around 16 million euros per episode, “One Piece” ranks among the most expensive series productions worldwide. The high production costs set the bar high for the second season. Fans can look forward to an elaborate continuation that promises to make the world of “One Piece” even bigger and more spectacular. A third season has already been confirmed.

What could happen in Season 2
Spoiler alert! After the big battle against Arlong, the Straw Hat crew experiences a major emotional high point. Each member, with their foot on the barrel, declares their own goal. Luffy, as is well known, wants to become the King of the Pirates–he shouts this to the world at every opportunity. Zoro, on the other hand, wants to become the world’s greatest swordsman, while Sanji wants to find the All Blue to cook with the most exotic ingredients. Nami and Usopp also finally know what their goals are. Usopp wants to become a renowned adventurer, and Nami wants to draw a map of the world now that she is free from Arlong. The crew then finally sets sail for the infamous Grand Line.
What the trailers reveal
The two trailers for the second season already give a good impression of where the Straw Hat Pirates’ journey is headed next–and they confirm that the storyline continues to closely follow the manga. While the Netflix adaptation takes some narrative liberties in places, the core of the story remains unchanged.
The focus is on Luffy’s next big adventure on the way to the Grand Line. There, the crew meets new friends and dangerous foes. Several scenes from the trailers already hint at encounters with the musician Brook and the mysterious figure La Boum, characters that fans of the manga and anime are already familiar with. The ship of the Rumbar Pirates, seen in photos from the shoot in South Africa, confirms this storyline. This suggests that the second season seamlessly continues from the first and marks the beginning of the next major chapter in the One Piece saga.

Brook, however, makes his first appearance in Chapter 442. Netflix could either be foreshadowing significantly or condensing future seasons to reach this point sooner. For comparison, the adventure in Arlong Park corresponds to manga chapters 69 to 95. This long-term planning might also hint at further seasons.
A new enemy in the Navy
As for Luffy’s next adversary, the post-credit scene of Season 1 focuses on Marine Captain Smoker. In the brief scene, a man with a cigar–Smoker always has two in the corner of his mouth–burns Luffy’s wanted poster. The Marine captain will be a tough opponent for the Straw Hat Pirates, as he is also a Devil Fruit user. The Straw Hat crew encounters the officer known as the “White Hunter” several times in the manga, first in Loguetown on their way to the Grand Line.
After a brief but important stop on the winter island Drum, the crew faces the next major storyline of the source material, the so-called Alabasta Arc. Alabasta is a kingdom on a desert island. Here, the shady Baroque Works, led by Mr. 0, attempts to seize control of the kingdom. The Straw Hat Pirates will become closely acquainted with agents Mr. 3, Mr. 5, Miss Valentine, as well as Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday.
The swordsman Hawkeye might also make another appearance. He and the other Warlords of the Sea still play an important role, as does Luffy’s family. Vice Admiral Garp is not the only one. Many fans are eagerly anticipating the first appearance of fan-favorite Portgas D. Ace, Luffy’s brother.
The cast of “One Piece” in Season 2
The main cast of “One Piece” is back. The young actors clearly get along well, and as of now, filming is unlikely to conflict with any other projects. However, the casting decisions for new roles were eagerly anticipated, especially for Nico Robin, Chopper, and the main characters the manga envisions for the upcoming arcs.
Several new adversaries from the lower ranks of the villains have already been introduced via the official “One Piece” account on X. These include four agents from the Baroque Works, a kind of mafia from the kingdom of Alabasta.
The main cast remains
The original cast is also back, although it’s uncertain how much screen time the popular characters Shanks and Buggy the Clown will actually get.
- Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy–an ambitious young pirate who wants to find the One Piece and, thanks to a Devil Fruit, is a rubber man, leader of the Straw Hat Pirates
- Emily Rudd as Nami–a skilled cartographer and fighter, she is the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates
- Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro–a taciturn, skilled swordsman, Luffy’s closest friend and first officer, was previously a pirate hunter and wants to become the world’s greatest swordsman
- Taz Skylar as Sanji–a talented cook and good fighter who mainly uses kicks, he is the cook of the Straw Hat crew and wants to find the mysterious All Blue
- Jacob Gibson as Usopp–a timid pirate and fantastic storyteller, very accurate and therefore the sniper of the Straw Hat Pirates
- Morgan Davies as Koby–dreams of helping the weak as a Marine soldier
- Vincent Regan as Monkey D. Garp–Vice Admiral of the Navy and Luffy’s grandfather
- Peter Gadiot as Shanks–a powerful pirate and Luffy’s role model
- Jeff Ward as Buggy the Clown–a rival pirate captain who also ate a Devil Fruit and can therefore split into many parts
The cast for new villains
The agents of the Baroque Works are numbered according to their abilities, so their code names conveniently reveal a lot about their status. While Agent Mr. 7 clashed with Zoro in the first season, the Straw Hat Pirates now face a meeting with Mr. 9, Mr. 5, and his partner Miss Valentine. Manga readers will vividly remember the treacherous Mr. 3 with his devious Devil Fruit power.
- David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, one of the most dangerous Baroque agents
- Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5, partner of Miss Valentine and the lowest officer in the Baroque Works
- Jazzara Jasly as Miss Valentine, partner of Mr. 5 and also an officer agent.
- Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9, one of the border agents below the officers, and–according to the manga–the partner of Miss Wednesday
- Joe Manganiello as No. 0 (aka Sir Crocodile), leader of the Baroque Works
- Lera Abova as Nico Robin–agent of the Baroque Works and archaeologist
Among others, Manganiello’s casting was announced at Netflix Geeked Week 2024.
Many new enemies and allies–Spoiler alert!
But the Straw Hat Pirates will also meet new friends and–at least temporarily–allies on their journey on the Grand Line. Clive Russell will bring the hermit Crocus to life, while Werner Coetser as Dorry and Brendan Murray as Brogy will become true warriors of the sea.
Of particular interest is the X post revealing the casting of Smoker and his lieutenant Tashigi. According to the manga, Zoro finds his nemesis in the swordswoman Tashigi, portrayed in the series by Julia Rehwald, while Luffy repeatedly clashes with Smoker. The role of the perpetually smoking Marine captain is played by Scottish musician and actor Callum Kerr.
What the cast reveals about the story
The new revelations about the cast make it clear that Luffy and his crew will visit many different places in the second season and encounter a whole range of new characters. Although the adventure in Alabasta is the largest arc on the horizon in terms of scope, the pirates will make stops at the transition to the Grand Line, on a lonely tropical island, and in a wintry kingdom. Here they will also meet their future ship’s doctor, Chopper. He was already seen in a short video that caused excitement.
Tony Tony Chopper, the little reindeer who gained human abilities by eating the Hito-Hito-no-Mi Fruit, is one of the most popular characters in the “One Piece” universe. In the second season of the Netflix adaptation, his introduction will be one of the greatest technical challenges for the production team. Chopper can take on several intermediate forms between animal, human, and monster–a complex concept that will be realized using a combination of CGI, real actors, and elaborate costumes, similar to the fish-men in the first season.
As confirmed by the database “IMDb,” U.S. actress Mikaela Hoover lends her voice to Chopper and also performs the facial capture for the character. Hoover is known from productions such as “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “The Suicide Squad,” bringing experience from major effects productions.
Along with Chopper, his mentor Dr. Kureha is also introduced: a gruff, older doctor who lives on the winter island Drum and enjoys cult status there with her direct but endearing manner. With the return of the Straw Hat Pirates, new allies, and crazy Devil Fruit powers, the second season of “One Piece” promises spectacular settings and plenty of high-seas adventure once again.
