Prime Video also produces a wide range of its own films and especially series. There are some outstanding titles where you wonder why they end at all when the success from season to season doesn’t wane. However, there is now sad news for fans of Amazon’s most successful series.
We’re talking about “The Boys.” The series tells its superhero story quite differently from the MCU or DC. Not only are the superheroes called Supes here, but they are also not the shining figures battling their inner demons to become a beacon of human values and lifestyles. In the series, the Supes are the antagonists. This unconventional approach convinces many and brings Amazon good streaming numbers. Now, the end of “The Boys” has been unexpectedly announced. And this comes just a few days before the launch of the fourth season. TECHBOOK explains the background.
“The Boys” Ends After Season 5
First, some good news. The series won’t disappear without a trace. The fourth season, which fans have been eagerly anticipating, will premiere on June 13. And then the successful series will also get a fifth season. After that, however, Amazon will ring in the end of “The Boys.”
This was confirmed by series creator Eric Kripke, who previously did not want to make a definitive statement. He told the industry magazine “Entertainment Weekly” that he is excited to finally implement his plans for the fifth season. He also discussed the reason for the series’ conclusion.

Why Season 5 Is the Last
Among other things, it specifically concerns the number five. “Partly, it’s a silly screenwriter thing, but three and five are the big magic numbers in writing. Three are film plots, five are TV plots (…). Five just seems like a good round number. It’s enough to tell the story but also to bring it to a climax without it wearing out.”
Even though many may be sad about the announced end of “The Boys,” this reasoning does have merit. There is frequent criticism of series that are not concluded due to their ongoing success, even though the plot repeats and sometimes the original cast is no longer involved. An example of this is “Grey’s Anatomy,” but also Kripke’s own series “Supernatural,” which ran from 2005 to 2020.
He also alludes to the latter in the interview. Apparently, he had already wished for an end after five seasons with the mystery series. Incidentally, the timing of the announcement of the end of “The Boys” is no coincidence. It was Kripke’s intention for viewers to have this information in mind when watching season 4. The finale is thus also emotionally prepared.
What Is “The Boys” About?
Speaking of season 4: Starting June 13, 2024, it continues the story of the feud between Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Homelander (Antony Starr). The former is the leader of the titular group “The Boys,” who aim to stop the Supes and the powerful corporation behind them, Vought. At the top of Vought is Homelander, who exploits his status as a famous superhero and holds nothing but contempt for other people. Butcher is driven by a thirst for revenge because he blames Homelander for his wife’s death. However, he must ask himself how far he is willing to go for his revenge. Meanwhile, the series also explores the lives of the Supes, not all of whom are happy with the current circumstances.
