In streaming, various services seem to hit one record after another with their titles. At least, record announcements are not uncommon. For Amazon Prime Video, “The Boys” Season 5 has recently reached new milestones. And this, despite the final season not being well-received online.
Record Numbers for “The Boys” Season 5
As reported by the U.S. industry magazine “The Hollywood Reporter,” “The Boys” Season 5 reached 57 million viewers worldwide per episode shortly after its release. This is the highest figure ever for the popular anti-superhero series. At the same time, the title has made it into the top 10 most-watched seasons of an Amazon Original series of all time.
The figures are based on a metric where even a few minutes watched count as a relevant access for the statistics. The last season is also responsible for the largest ratings growth over a three-week period for any series or film to date.

Success Despite Much Online Mockery
The records for “The Boys” Season 5 paint a very different picture than what is spread online. Numerous people have criticized the finale, even comparing it to the much-maligned final season of “Game of Thrones.” The main criticisms include a sluggish narrative pace and too much filler material.
In an interview with “The Hollywood Reporter,” showrunner Eric Kripke expressed his satisfaction in light of the encouraging numbers. He said he had read as many online reactions as possible in the past and became anxious. But then he saw the ratings and was immediately reassured. In the end, the loud online world does not represent the real one, where things can unfold differently.
New “The Boys” Spinoff Coming
Regarding the criticism, he said it was important to him and the writers to give all the main characters a worthy conclusion to their storylines. “What do you expect? Do you expect a big battle in every episode?” At no point in the writing process did he think he was making a filler episode.
