After more than a decade-long hiatus, the well-known parody series “Scary Movie” is getting a sequel. The new installment continues the satirical concept of humorously reenacting successful horror films. “Scary Movie 6” is set to premiere on June 11, 2026, marking the franchise’s return to the big screen after the fifth film in 2013.
Return of Familiar Characters for “Scary Movie 6”
The Wayans brothers, Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory, who launched the project in 2000, are once again involved in writing and production. Marlon and Shawn Wayans will also reprise their well-known roles as Shorty and Ray. Michael Tiddes, who has previously worked with the brothers on projects such as “Fifty Shades of Black,” will direct. The team is supported by Rick Alvarez, who co-wrote the script.
By the way, most “Scary Movie” installments are currently (as of May 13, 2026) not available on any streaming service subscription. However, fans can enjoy “Scary Movie 4” on Disney+, where it is currently available with a subscription. Those without a subscription can get one below:
Some actors from the early films are also returning. Anna Faris is back as Cindy Campbell, and Regina Hall will reprise her role as Brenda. Both characters are among the most popular in the series. Additionally, Dave Sheridan will return as Officer Doofy, and the iconic “Ghost Mask” will also make a comeback on the big screen.

Content and Possible Parodies in “Scary Movie 6”
The franchise became famous for its satirical take on popular horror films. For “Scary Movie 6,” Marlon Wayans has already mentioned several inspirations. These include classics like “Scream” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” as well as recent productions like “Longlegs,” “Nope,” “Get Out,” or “Sinners.” This creates a mix of well-known classics and new genre successes, as reported by “Comicbookmovie.”
Additionally, the film might spoof so-called legacy sequels. These are sequels that appear years after the original and create a connection between earlier and new characters. Examples include “Halloween” or “Candyman.”
Developments in the Horror Genre as Inspiration
Since Jordan Peele’s “Get Out,” horror films with Black protagonists have increasingly come into focus. Productions like “His House” or “The First Purge” have reinforced this trend. This movement could also be parodied in “Scary Movie 6,” allowing the film to not only tackle traditional horror motifs but also engage with current trends in the genre.
