Black suits, cool sunglasses, and “neuralyzing”–the “Men in Black” films have gained many fans since 1997, especially due to the lead duo of the first three films, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. The latest installment was released in 2019 with a new cast. But now, “Men in Black 5” is actually in the works.
“Men in Black 5” in development at Sony
This is reported exclusively by “Deadline,” citing unnamed insider sources. According to them, Sony Pictures wants to revive another franchise with “Men in Black 5,” having already brought “Bad Boys” back to the big screen after a long hiatus.
Currently (as of December 5, 2025), all “Men in Black” films are available on Netflix. For those without a subscription, it’s best to get a combo package with Sky/Wow and Paramount+ for a comprehensive streaming experience:
There aren’t many details available at the moment, as the project is in a very early stage. However, it is known that Chris Bremner is set to write the screenplay. Bremner has already written the last two “Bad Boys” films and has established himself as a writer of fast-paced and successful scripts.
“Men in Black 5” with Will Smith again?
Additionally, Bremner seems to be the unofficial screenwriter for current film projects involving Will Smith. Besides the aforementioned action blockbusters, he is also said to have contributed to the script for the Netflix film “Fast & Loose,” in which Smith might star. And finally, the “Men in Black” franchise is one where he played a leading role most of the time.

However, whether the superstar will reprise his role as Agent J remains uncertain for now. Bremner will write the character into the first draft of the script, and Smith will be one of the first to read it. Only then, according to reports, will he decide on his participation.
It is also unclear in what capacity Agent J will appear in the story–will he be the main character again or become a mentor this time? There is no information about a possible return of Tommy Lee Jones in any form.
