The right sleeping temperature in bed has already caused many household disagreements. Ultimately, everyone has different preferences—especially when it comes to sleep: temperature, blanket, pillow, position. The crowdfunding project Smartduvet aims to minimize this potential for conflict with a climate-controlled duvet.

The project “Smartduvet” first appeared on the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo two years ago and immediately attracted significant attention. Since then, a successor model, the “Smartduvet Breeze,” has been developed, where temperature control is no longer the only feature: the revolutionary bedroom accessory can now magically spread itself out again. The time spent making the bed after getting up can now be invested in the rest of the morning routine.

What the Smart Duvet Can Do

Part of the equipment is an additional layer placed between the filling and the cover of the duvet. This contains air chambers through which climate-controlled air can be directed to specific parts of the duvet. The targeted air supply ensures that the duvet spreads out—fluffed up, as if made by hand.

The duvet uses separate air chambers to supply different amounts of hot or cold air to each side of the bed.

It can also be set to automatically form at a specific time of day by using inflatable tubes to bring it into the right shape for the evening.

All functions of the ultra-light “Smartduvet” can be controlled via its smartphone app, including heat control and the specific time of day when the duvet reshapes itself.

More Sleep Comfort Through Independent Temperature Control

Some like it nice and warm, while others prefer to forgo the blanket altogether. Especially on hot summer nights, many never find the right temperature in bed. A smart, climate-controlled duvet is now supposed to solve this problem. Temperature control is possible for two zones, so the partner’s favorite temperature can also be considered.

The duvet does not replace your existing bedding; it is more of an upgrade. A technical improvement that allows the temperature to be individually set for each side of the bed. There is the option to warm one half of the bed while simultaneously cooling the other side. Small pores in the duvet ensure sufficient air circulation at night. This enhances the natural evaporation effect under the duvet and the associated cooling, all without additional technical aids like a noisy compressor.

The bedroom novelty is set to be delivered starting in July and can be pre-ordered for approximately 250 euros. Due to the lack of distribution partners in Germany, a shipping fee of about 40 euros is also required for delivery from the United States.

Apart from the mentioned advantages, the investments in the “Smartduvet Breeze” are expected to pay off multiple times, as it reduces the energy needed to heat or cool the entire room, since the user can directly warm or cool their body, assured Tina Cayoutte, CEO of “Smartduvet.”

Competing Products and Alternatives

Also new on the market for a few days is the competitor’s model from BedJet. Their latest product, the “BedJet 3 Climate Comfort System,” offers roughly the same functions as the “Smartduvet Breeze,” but costs nearly twice as much at a price of about 800 euros.

Aside from that, there are similar products that can perform the same or at least one function of the “Smartduvet Breeze,” but none of them combine these features as sensibly and at a comparable price-performance ratio.
