Samsung and Ikea have expanded their collaboration in the smart home sector. Back in January 2026, both companies announced plans to work more closely together. Now, they are showcasing the first concrete results of this partnership.

The Matter standard aims to ensure that devices from different manufacturers work together more easily. The goal is to make building a connected home simpler. Despite major announcements, this vision has been slow to develop. Samsung and Ikea are now jointly advancing its implementation.

During CES 2026 in January, both companies stated that Ikea’s smart home products would be integrated into Samsung’s SmartThings platform. This has now been accomplished.

25 Ikea Devices Can Connect

According to the official press release, 25 devices from Ikea’s range can currently be used directly with SmartThings. No additional gateway from Ikea is required. However, the products must be newer and support the Matter-over-Thread standard.

Compatible devices include:

  • Light bulbs
  • Door and window sensors
  • Motion detectors
  • Water sensors
  • Temperature and air sensors
  • Bilresa remote control

New Features for Control

The Bilresa remote control is likely to be of interest to many users. It features a dial that allows lamps to be dimmed or changed in color seamlessly. These functions are now available within SmartThings without limitations.

In the future, Bilresa will also be able to control smart blinds. Samsung is relying on the Thread standard in version 1.4 for integration.

Progress with Limitations

The integration of Ikea products into SmartThings is a step forward. At the same time, it also shows that the Matter standard is not yet fully convincing.

Ideally, Matter devices from different manufacturers should work directly with each other. The fact that Samsung is announcing the new support separately suggests that there are still limitations.
