In October 2022, the Swedish furniture retailer Ikea introduced the Dirigera hub, offering an affordable entry into the smart home world with Matter. This hub replaced the older Tradfri gateway and serves as a control unit for smart lamps, sensors, and other devices. Besides easier operation, the price of 59.99 euros was particularly convincing—a price the company is now significantly increasing.
Significant Price Increase
In Germany, the Dirigera hub is now offered in the online store for 74.99 euros. This represents an increase of 15 euros or about 25 percent. The hub itself does not replace a lamp or sensor but connects various components and coordinates processes. Those equipping multiple rooms or setting up routines will find it hard to do without.

Higher Entry Costs for Ikea Smart Home
Ikea has not yet provided an official reason for the price increase. However, price changes at Ikea are not uncommon, often driven by rising production, transportation, or component costs. The increase could affect demand for the hub. As it serves as a central connection unit for many Ikea smart home devices, the higher price might also dampen interest in other products, such as lamps or sensors.
Patience and Alternatives
Interested buyers should carefully consider the timing of their purchase. Patience might pay off if Ikea lowers the price or offers temporary discounts. Alternatively, other solutions can be considered. The Philips Hue Bridge is available in stores from about 30 euros and can work with compatible lighting products from Ikea. However, it does not fully replace the Dirigera hub, as it primarily focuses on smart lamps.
