With the new Home Speaker, Google is launching its first smart speaker designed from the ground up for the AI assistant Gemini. The device is intended to eventually replace the existing Nest Audio and Nest Mini models.
Google is now bringing its new Home Speaker to Germany. It is the company’s first completely newly developed smart speaker in several years. Unlike the previous Nest devices, the speaker was specifically designed for use with the AI assistant Gemini.
The focus is on significantly more natural voice control. Instead of rigid voice commands, users should be able to have fluid conversations. According to Google, Gemini can also understand follow-up questions without needing to be reactivated with “Hey Google.” Those who subscribe to Google Home Premium will gain access to enhanced AI features like Gemini Live, which aims to enable even more natural conversations.
More Than Just a Smart Speaker
In addition to the new AI features, the Home Speaker is also intended to serve as a central hub for the connected home. The speaker supports the smart home standard Matter, allowing it to control various compatible devices. It can also be paired with additional Home Speakers for a stereo setup.
Furthermore, Google promises 360-degree sound and a home theater function in combination with the Google TV streamer. This positions the device not only as a voice assistant but also as an entertainment center for music, movies, and smart home control.

New Design Focused on Sustainability
Visually, Google is opting for a revamped design. According to the manufacturer, the Home Speaker is made of 37 percent recycled materials and is available in the colors Hazel and Porcelain. The casing is covered with a specially developed 3D-knit fabric, giving the device a living room-friendly look.
An illuminated ring at the bottom indicates when the voice assistant is listening, processing a request, or responding. For more privacy control, Google has also integrated a physical switch to completely disable the microphone.
The new Home Speaker is now available in the Google Store as well as at MediaMarkt and Saturn. The suggested retail price is 119.99 euros. Those who purchase the device by September 30, 2026, will also receive six months of Google Home Premium for free.
