Apple is significantly expanding its smart home offerings. In addition to a new Apple TV 4K and the second generation of the HomePod mini, the company is introducing its own smart display for the first time. The Apple HomeView is set to become the central hub in the connected home. This is complemented by the new Apple Home Collection, which includes cameras, thermostats, and smart door locks.

Apple HomeView Becomes the Smart Home Hub

With the HomeView, Apple is adding a completely new device to its smart home portfolio. The 7-inch display can stand on a table or be mounted on a wall. From there, users can control cameras, thermostats, and door locks, among other things. FaceTime calls and the playback of music and videos are also possible. For voice control, Apple relies on Siri AI.

HomeView becomes particularly interesting when multiple people live together. According to Apple, the device can recognize up to six household members by their faces and display personalized content accordingly. However, there’s a catch at launch. Starting November 13, the HomeView will initially only be available in Australia, the United Kingdom, India, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States. In the U.S., it costs $299.

The device does not have its own App Store. Instead, users must transfer their profile and apps from an iPhone, similar to CarPlay. When switching between users, HomeView automatically adjusts the app selection.

Different colors, different tasks: The HomeView is at the center of the new smart home initiative.

Apple has not yet announced a release date for Germany or other European countries. The reason: “Apple HomeView is not being offered for sale in the European Union because Siri AI under iOS is currently not available in the EU.” However, the company is cooperating with the EU to bring the device to the European market.

HomePod mini 2 Becomes Much More Versatile

The HomePod mini is also getting an update. The second generation will be available in five colors and is expected to offer better sound quality thanks to new technology. At the same time, Apple is expanding the role of the small speaker as a control center for the smart home. A new chip and improved network connectivity are expected to help.

The interaction with the new Apple TV 4K is particularly interesting. Up to four HomePod mini speakers can be connected to form a surround system. This positions the small speaker more strongly as a component of the home theater. Orders are already possible. Delivery begins on October 30, 2026. The HomePod mini 2 costs 169 euros.

Siri AI will be available via an update to HomePod Software 27.2 later this year–but initially not in the EU.

Apple TV 4K Gets the A19 Chip

The focus for the Apple TV 4K is primarily on increased performance. In its fourth generation, Apple’s A19 chip powers the streaming box. According to the manufacturer, the system is expected to operate up to 50 percent faster. Three integrated microphones also enable voice control in the room without the need for a remote control.

Siri AI is also used here. At the same time, Apple TV 4K integrates more closely with other devices in the household. The streaming box supports a surround system with up to four HomePods. Pre-orders start on October 14, 2026, with delivery beginning on November 13. The price is 349 euros.

More on the topic

Apple Home Collection Expands the Ecosystem

With the Apple Home Collection, the company is taking another step forward. Together with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, a dedicated product line for the connected home is being created. The range includes surveillance cameras, a video doorbell, thermostats, temperature sensors, and a smart door lock.

Setup is expected to be straightforward via the iPhone. Subsequently, the devices can be managed through Apple’s Home app and connected with other components of the ecosystem. The U.S. prices mentioned so far range from $40 for sensors to $400 for a floodlight camera. Sales of the first devices are expected to begin in early 2027.

Apple Aims to Bring the Connected Home Closer Together

With these innovations, Apple’s strategy is becoming quite clear. TVs, speakers, smart displays, and traditional smart home devices are to be more closely integrated. The HomeView, in particular, could play an important role, as users will no longer need to reach for their iPhone for every control.

However, the key will be how well the various devices actually work together in everyday life. Additionally, the new HomeView is not expected to be available in Germany initially. For Apple users in Germany, the HomePod mini 2 and Apple TV 4K remain the most interesting new products for now.
