Amazon has completely taken a piece of its Fire TV accessory off the network and permanently shut it down. For users, this means the device no longer works, even though it is technically still intact.
The device in question is the Amazon Fire TV Blaster, which has been unusable since its shutdown on January 31, 2026. This accessory, once introduced as a supplement for Fire TV Sticks, is now electronic waste. Customers in Germany receive a voucher as compensation, while in the U.S., there are discount promotions, as reported by “AFTVnews.”
Amazon Has Discontinued the Fire TV Blaster
Amazon informed Fire TV Blaster owners in the U.S. and Germany in advance via email that all functions of the device would be deactivated. This means the accessory can no longer be used. Support was also discontinued at the same time.
An Amazon spokesperson told TECHBOOK that customers in Germany will receive a gift card equal to the original purchase price as compensation. This will be automatically credited to their Amazon account. No additional action is required from customers. Users can check the status of their credit through a provided link.
Amazon introduced the Fire TV Blaster to the German market in December 2019 for 35 euros. The product has not been available for about a year. In the U.S., the device was sold for over four years.

Amazon Plans Radical Overhaul for Fire Tablets
Low Demand and Technological Change as Reasons
The Fire TV Blaster allowed users to control TVs, soundbars, or AV receivers via voice command through Echo speakers. The accessory served as a link between a Fire TV product and an Echo device, with control via infrared signal. Direct voice control was not possible with the Blaster—this was only possible through the connected Echo device.
According to Amazon, the demand for such devices has since declined. The company cites the increasing prevalence of HDMI-CEC technology and the further development of its own Fire TV products as reasons.
However, it remains unclear why Amazon has completely deactivated already sold devices instead of allowing them to continue operating with their existing functionality. A comparable measure has not been seen before—even with older Fire TV accessories like the Recast DVR, usage remained possible after sales stopped.
Discount Promotions for U.S. Customers
In the U.S., affected users receive a discount code instead of a voucher. With the code “60FTV,” there is a $60 discount on the regular price of the Fire TV Cube. Alternatively, with the code “50FTV,” any Fire TV Stick can be purchased at half price—even on already discounted offers. Both promotions are valid until March 31, 2026.
It is currently unknown whether Amazon will offer similar replacement deals in Germany.
