Amazon has significantly raised the prices of many of its own devices in Germany, following similar increases in the U.S. Affected products include the Echo, Kindle, Fire TV, and Eero series. Some models have seen substantial price hikes. The company cites increased costs for memory chips as the reason.
The price increase is particularly noticeable for the Echo Dot. The compact Alexa speaker now costs 79.99 euros in the German Amazon store, up from 64.99 euros. The Echo Show 11 is also more expensive. The smart display with Alexa has risen from 219.99 to 249.99 euros.
Higher Prices for Kindle, Fire TV, and Eero Systems
The price increases affect not only Amazon’s smart speakers. The Kindle e-readers have seen particularly steep hikes. The Kindle with 16 gigabytes of storage will now cost 149.99 euros instead of 109.99 euros. The ad-free version will be 159.99 euros, up from 119.99 euros.
The Kindle Paperwhite is also significantly more expensive. Its price rises from 169.99 to 219.99 euros, or from 179.99 to 229.99 euros for the ad-free version. The Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition with 32 gigabytes of storage will now cost 249.99 euros, up from 199.99 euros.
For the Fire TV Stick HD, Amazon is raising the price from 44.99 to 64.99 euros. The Fire TV Stick 4K Select goes from 54.99 to 69.99 euros, while the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus will now cost 84.99 euros instead of 69.99 euros. The price increase is particularly steep for the Fire TV Stick 4K Max, which rises from 79.99 to 114.99 euros. The Fire TV Cube now costs 229.99 euros, up from 159.99 euros.
The Eero systems for providing Wi-Fi to larger apartments and houses are also more expensive. The Eero 7 rises from 349.99 to 399.99 euros. The Eero Pro 7 will now cost 799.99 euros in Germany, up from 699.99 euros.

High Memory Costs as the Cause
Ring products such as cameras and video doorbells are not affected by the current round of price increases. Amazon attributes the price hikes to the sharply increased costs for memory chips and RAM. According to the company, it has borne these additional costs itself for as long as possible.
One reason is the worldwide high demand for memory components. The boom in artificial intelligence and the expansion of large data centers, in particular, mean that enormous quantities of these components are needed.
According to Amazon, there will still be discount promotions, such as on Prime Day or around Black Friday. However, it remains to be seen how significant the discounts will be in the future. As the higher list prices are now reflected in the German Amazon store, future offers are likely to be at a higher price level than before.
