Cryptocurrencies are becoming more accessible in brick-and-mortar retail: MediaMarkt and Saturn are adding gift cards for Bitcoin and other digital currencies to their product range. This move is intended to make it easier for beginners to access the crypto market.
Cryptocurrencies Enter the Electronics Retail Market
MediaMarktSaturn is expanding its offerings in Germany with gift cards from the Swiss provider Cryptonow. The cards are now available both in stores and online at MediaMarkt and Saturn. After purchase, they can be redeemed online for Bitcoin or other supported cryptocurrencies.
The technical implementation is carried out in collaboration with the payment and gift card provider Epay. This marks the first time cryptocurrencies are offered as a standalone product category in the gift card section of the electronics retailer. From the perspective of the companies involved, this is intended to make purchasing digital assets easier and more accessible to a broader audience.

How the Offer Works
The purchase of crypto gift cards initially does not differ from a traditional gift card. After purchase, the included code is redeemed online, and the corresponding credit amount is invested in the selected cryptocurrency. The offer is primarily aimed at users who want to gain initial experience with cryptocurrencies without having to register directly with a crypto exchange.
In addition to a Bitcoin starter pack, Cryptonow also offers prepaid cards that can be used to top up existing wallets or investment accounts. The portfolio is complemented by the Cryptonow Invest platform, which allows users to buy and manage cryptocurrencies. This covers both the entry into and the subsequent management of digital assets.
Experiences from Switzerland as a Model
The introduction in Germany builds on the collaboration in Switzerland, where the gift cards have been available in brick-and-mortar retail for some time. According to the companies involved, there is increasing demand there for straightforward ways to purchase cryptocurrencies through established sales channels.
Cryptonow also has ambitious expansion plans. The company aims to establish a Europe-wide sales network with more than 300,000 points of sale in 28 countries. The cooperation with MediaMarktSaturn is part of a strategy to further integrate cryptocurrencies into traditional retail and simplify access to digital assets for consumers.
