Starting in August, Hermes will increase prices for packages and parcels. Both domestic and international shipping will require private customers to adjust accordingly.
After DHL raised its prices on July 1, the parcel service Hermes is following suit. The price increase, effective August 1, primarily affects private customers. Delivery to the doorstep will become more expensive, with the most significant price jump for travel luggage and bulky goods.
Prices for Hermes Packages and Parcels Rise
Prices are rising in many areas, including shipping with Hermes. According to the Hamburg-based company, the increased costs cannot be offset by savings. The entire logistics industry is currently grappling with the impact of higher electricity and fuel costs. Therefore, part of this must be passed on to customers. Not all, but some types of shipments are affected.
In the future, a standard parcel will cost 4.50 euros—regardless of whether it was franked online or not. Previously, you could save 20 cents by pre-franking the parcel at home and then dropping it off at the branch. This advantage, like with DHL, will no longer be available. Otherwise, online prices remain relatively untouched, while customers who pay at the parcel shop will have to expect an increase of 10 to 40 cents depending on the package size. Prices for parcel shop delivery, where customers pick up their parcel at the branch, remain unchanged.
Hermes will particularly raise prices in the area of travel luggage and bulky goods starting in August. This mainly concerns shipments that require special attention during sorting at the centers. Bulky goods also take up comparatively more space during transport. So, if you send your suitcase to a parcel shop via Hermes, it will cost 19.95 euros instead of 15.95 euros. If you want to save travel stress and have the luggage delivered to your doorstep, it will cost 24.95 euros instead of the previous 18.95 euros. The so-called “service fee” for bulky goods, in addition to the package price, will also be 19.95 euros starting in August.
International Shipping with Hermes Also Becomes More Expensive
Customers will also have to pay more for parcels and packages beyond Germany’s borders starting in August. There is talk of a “significant increase in freight charges from partners (…) with whom Hermes collaborates in the international freight sector.” While Hermes prices within the EU and thus the European Customs Union remain unchanged, there is a surcharge for seven countries. So, starting in August, sending parcels and packages to China, Canada, Norway, Australia, the USA, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland will cost approximately two to 40 euros more.
