With updates, it’s always possible for features to disappear from an app. For instance, Deutsche Post recently removed the barcode feature from the “Post & DHL” app. However, after strong user criticism, the company is now reversing its decision.
With the latest update to version 9.3 for the “Post & DHL” app, Deutsche Post isn’t introducing new features but is bringing back a function that many users missed. The barcode, essential for both sending and picking up packages at the Packstation, is being reinstated. DHL had removed it in a previous update, causing significant frustration among customers.
Barcode Returns to “Post & DHL” App
“Due to popular customer demand, we are reintroducing the customer number barcode with this update,” Deutsche Post explains. Users can find the barcode feature within the “Post & DHL” app under the “Packstation” and “Send” tabs. The code serves as a replacement for the traditional DHL customer card and is regenerated continuously. This aims to enhance security and eliminate the need for an additional customer card.
To pick up a package from the Packstation, customers simply need to scan the barcode on their smartphone for verification. However, they also need the scannable pickup code, which Deutsche Post introduced in July 2022 as a replacement for the four-digit pickup code, TECHBOOK reported. When sending packages, scanning the barcode allows users to receive the delivery receipt via email and collect bonus points.
Android Users Must Wait
In this case, customer feedback once again led to the reinstatement of a previously removed feature. We’ve seen similar situations recently with ING, which adjusted the operation of its banking app via an update, but faced criticism from users who could only access an important function through indirect means. After numerous comments on various platforms, the bank responded and revised the new menu structure.

Deutsche Post has also taken customer feedback to heart and reintroduced the barcode in the “Post & DHL” app. The update to version 9.3 is already available for iOS users. Android users, however, will have to wait a bit longer, as only the older version 9.2.3.52 is listed in the Play Store. It likely won’t be long before Deutsche Post releases the update for Android as well.
