When shopping on Amazon, you might occasionally make a mistake. If you don’t like the product, it’s damaged, or it’s simply the wrong item, you can return it and get your money back. This can be cumbersome. However, Amazon now offers automatic partial refunds.
Using Amazon’s Automatic Partial Refunds
As the company confirmed in an email to TECHBOOK, Amazon’s automatic partial refunds have been available since the end of the first half of the year. These are intended to simplify the well-known return and complaint process. Until now, partial refunds were always a matter for the support team, with whom you first had to communicate.
The support team could then offer a partial refund on a case-by-case basis. This means the customer simply keeps the product and receives a partial refund. With Amazon’s automatic partial refunds, this process can now be expedited. Both customers and support no longer need to discuss this point. With a few clicks, consumers can easily initiate this step themselves.
Those satisfied with this compromise also save themselves the hassle of returning the item. However, the standard return option remains available. It is also possible to receive a partial refund, return the item, and then receive the remaining amount later.
Customers Criticize
In a quick TECHBOOK self-test, the option did not appear for us. However, Amazon says it depends on factors such as the product’s dimensions, the reason for return, and the purchase price. It is also available for various product categories. If a product qualifies, customers will be able to select it.

Furthermore, we wanted to know from the shipping giant how the partial refund amounts are determined. There are already initial customer reports claiming that the amounts are very low, making the process not worthwhile. The company, however, does not wish to comment on this.
