Since the launch of Windows 11, many users have been waiting for the return of a specific feature. It now appears that Microsoft might soon fulfill this wish. In current insider versions of Windows 11, the company is testing a freely movable taskbar for the first time again.
Taskbar Usable Again Flexibly
The feature was standard until Windows 10. Users could move the taskbar to the top, left, or right edge of the screen according to their preference. However, with the switch to Windows 11, this option disappeared. The decision was met with much criticism from the community at the time.
Now, the preview versions 26220.9022 and 28020.2623 show that Microsoft is apparently working on a return. Insiders can already move the taskbar to different screen edges. According to initial screenshots, the Start menu also automatically adjusts to the chosen position.
Will the Feature Be Available Soon for Everyone?
There is no official date for the introduction yet. However, the fact that the feature is already appearing in the Beta channel suggests that development is well advanced. A rollout through one of the next regular updates is conceivable.

It is also possible that Microsoft is holding back the feature for Windows 11 26H2. The major feature update is currently expected in the fall and could bring several adjustments to the user interface.
For many users, the return of the movable taskbar would be a long-overdue step. After all, the feature has been one of the most requested by the Windows community for years.
