Microsoft released new security updates for Windows 10 and Windows 11 for the August Patch Tuesday. Users should not delay the update. With this update, the company addresses a total of around 398 security vulnerabilities. Forty-two of them are even classified as critical.
Zero-Day Vulnerabilities Closed by Windows Patch Tuesday
The update is particularly important due to three so-called zero-day vulnerabilities. These are security gaps already known to attackers or even actively exploited. Affected are, among others, the network driver afd.sys, the Windows User Profile Service, and a driver for Windows container isolation. The vulnerabilities could allow attackers to gain elevated privileges on a system.

In addition to security improvements, Microsoft provides bug fixes. Windows 10 users benefit, among other things, from a correction for the file history. Backups to network shares could previously fail in certain cases due to allegedly invalid login credentials.

How to Install the Update
The update is distributed as usual via Windows Update. Alternatively, companies can obtain the packages through the Microsoft Update Catalog or WSUS. To check which Windows version is installed, you can use the Windows + R key combination to run the command “winver” and display the current build number.
