Microsoft has released a particularly extensive update for Windows 10 and Windows 11 with the current July patch. More than 570 security vulnerabilities have been fixed. This should be a cause for celebration. However, shortly after the rollout, some Dell devices experienced issues. Microsoft responded quickly and temporarily halted distribution for affected systems.
The issues apparently stemmed from the Intel Innovation Platform Framework driver and a new USB-C integration. This combination led to increased power consumption and, consequently, more heat generation. Users also noticed shorter battery life, performance losses, and in some cases, even unexpected restarts. Classic issues with faulty driver combinations.
Fix is here and clears the way
There is now an all-clear. An out-of-band update fixes the errors and ensures that the July patch can be installed again. Those affected should apply the update as soon as possible to regain stable system performance.

Affected Dell Models
Microsoft and Dell initially did not comment on the specific devices affected. However, reports indicate that several models were involved, including:
- Dell Pro Max 14 Premium MA14250
- Dell Pro Max 16 Premium MA16250
- Dell Pro Precision 7 14 PW714260
- Dell Pro Precision 7 16 PW716260
- Precision 5470, 5480, 5490, and 5770
- XPS 17 9720 and XPS 17 9730
It remains unclear whether other models or manufacturers are affected by similar issues.
Installation Possible Again
The update identified as KB5121767 is now available through Windows Update and the Microsoft Update Catalog. Once installed, the large July security update can be used again without restrictions.
