Apple is revamping the MacBook Pro more extensively than it has in a long time. In addition to touch controls, there’s a new OLED display, the Dynamic Island, and more power with M5 Pro and M5 Max.
Apple Brings Touch and Dynamic Island to the Mac
Apple is making a remarkable shift with the MacBook Pro: For the first time, the notebook can be operated directly via the screen. Users can swipe through websites, zoom in on photos with two fingers, or move elements using drag and drop. Creative users are expected to benefit, such as when drawing or playing virtual instruments.
Numerous well-known applications are also expected to support touch controls, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Lightroom and DaVinci Resolve. Apple is also bringing the Dynamic Island from the iPhone, where live activities, calls, and music playback controls appear.

New OLED Display Meets M5 Power
Another major innovation concerns the screen. The so-called PROLED-XDR display uses tandem OLED technology and is expected to reach peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits. Apple also specifies a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1 and an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hertz.
The MacBook Pro will be available with 14.2- and 16.3-inch displays and is simultaneously lighter. The devices weigh 1.38 and 1.82 kilograms, respectively, with a battery life of up to 24 hours. M5 Pro and M5 Max processors are available. In the highest configuration, up to 128 gigabytes of unified memory and 16 terabytes of storage are possible.
New Technology Causes Prices to Rise
Apple remains relatively generous with ports: The equipment includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card reader, MagSafe, and a headphone jack. Additionally, there’s Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and a 12-megapixel camera. The operating system is macOS 27, including Apple Intelligence.
The extensive modernization is reflected in the price. The 14-inch model with M5 Pro starts at 3,299 euros, while the 16-inch variant starts at 3,899 euros. With M5 Max, prices start at 5,119 and 5,599 euros, respectively. Pre-orders are now available, and the new MacBook Pro models will go on sale on Nov. 6.
