It’s going to be a busy month for Apple. Just recently, new smart home products, including the new HomeView hub, were unveiled at the “Welcome Home” event. Today, Apple also opened pre-orders for the iPhone Duo, which will hit the market on October 23. At the same time, the company is inviting people to another event scheduled for October 28.

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that Apple has invited select media to a “Launch Experience” in Los Angeles on October 28. During the event, the company is expected to showcase the highly anticipated MacBook Pro with a touchscreen, as well as other Macs and a new iPad mini.

New MacBook Pro with Touchscreen

The centerpiece of the expected presentation is a completely revamped MacBook Pro model with a fresh design and a touchscreen. This would be a first for MacBooks, as Apple has long adhered to Steve Jobs’ mantra of keeping MacBooks with trackpads and iPads with touchscreens distinct.

But that’s not all: The new Apple laptop is also expected to feature an OLED display for the first time. Until now, these self-illuminating screens have only been found in iPhones and iPad Pros. Dynamic Island–also known from the iPhone–is expected to replace the previous notch in the MacBook Pro display.

More on the topic

M6 Chips for More Macs

In September, Apple already equipped the Mac mini with the new M6 chip. Now, two more Mac models are set to follow: the iMac and the 14-inch MacBook Pro. Externally, there is likely to be little change to the two devices. However, with the M6, they will receive a significantly more powerful chip.

The M6 is based on TSMC’s 2-nanometer architecture and comes with 12 CPU cores and 12 GPU cores. With the new “Dual 16-Core Neural Engine,” the chip offers significantly more power for AI applications like Apple Intelligence. For Apple, however, the M6 is just a stepping stone to the M7 series (with an even stronger AI focus) and therefore comes without a Pro, Max, or Ultra variant.

iPad mini with OLED Display

The 8th generation iPad mini, on the other hand, is expected to receive a major design update. Anticipated innovations include an OLED display and a waterproof casing. With the A20 Pro–the chip that also powers the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo–the mini makes a significant leap in performance.

As with other iPad models, the front camera is expected to move to the long side of the casing to optimize the device for video calls. A new speaker system is also part of the expected innovations.

Apple has already leaked a new Smart Folio for the iPad mini 8 on its French regulatory information website. This could indicate that the upcoming iPad mini generation will no longer be compatible with the previous Smart Folio.
