There are several reasons why clearing the cache can be very beneficial. TECHBOOK explains the advantages and how you can do it on your laptop and smartphone or in various browsers.
The browser cache is a temporary storage where parts of websites are saved for later access. Essentially, this is quite clever because when loading or accessing a website, the cached data is used to reduce loading time. Simply put, the cache immediately recognizes if a file has been accessed and downloaded before. If so, it loads the selected file or website directly from the cache, sparing the smartphone or laptop from exerting too much effort. This sounds great in theory. But why should you regularly clear the browser cache?
Overview
Why It’s Important to Clear the Cache
Depending on how many websites are stored in the browser cache, overfilling can slow down your laptop or smartphone. The cache is not a temporary storage in the traditional sense, like a hard drive or RAM. Instead, browsers store website data directly on the device’s memory. Especially on smartphones with smaller storage, this can quickly fill up.
Sometimes a caching issue can occur where a browser loads cached data instead of new website information. In such cases, clearing the cache is the only solution. You’ll learn how to do this for each browser on laptops and smartphones below.
