For the past few weeks, Google has been offering AI-generated summaries of search results, which are not always reliable. However, for those who want to use Google Search without AI, there’s a trick.
For some time now, the Google search engine has been providing its users with AI-generated summaries of search results. These so-called AI overviews are intended to provide quick answers to queries. However, these responses are not always reliable or correct. For those who wish to use Google Search without AI, there is now a simple way to remove it.
Get Google Search Without AI With This Trick
“GoogleWatchBlog” has published a method to use Google Search without AI. Users can append the URL https://google.com/ with search?q=[search term]&udm=14 to use the classic view within the search engine.
Example: For a search on “Mathematics,” enter “https://google.com/search?q=Mathematics&udm=14” in the browser’s address bar and press Enter. The parameter &udm=14 instructs Google to use the AI-free web search, thus omitting the automatically generated overviews.
Google Search Without AI in Chrome and Firefox
Manually adding the parameter for each search can become cumbersome over time. Those who want to permanently disable the overviews can set the AI-free Google Search as the default search engine in their browser.
Google Chrome
- Open the “Settings” menu.
- Go to the “Search engine” menu and open it.
- Select “Manage search engines and site search”.
- Scroll to the “Site search” section and click “Add.”
- Give the entry a name, a shortcut, and enter the web address https://www.google.com/search?q=%s&udm=14 under “URL with %s in place of query.”
- Click “Add.”
The new entry will now appear under the name you chose in the list. Click the three dots next to the name and set it as default to automatically use the web search without AI in the future.
Mozilla Firefox
- Open the “Settings” menu.
- Go to the “Search” entry in the left sidebar.
- Scroll down to “Search engine keywords.”
- Click “Add” and enter the URL mentioned above along with any name for the entry. Confirm with “Add search engine.”
- Select your configured search engine under “Default search engine” further up in the same menu.
In other browsers, setting up Google Search without AI should follow a similar pattern. If you wish to reactivate the AI overviews, simply reset the search engine in the settings to the original Google Search.
