The popular messaging app already offers a lot of features. But now, WhatsApp for Android is set to receive a scanning function.
With more than three billion users worldwide, WhatsApp is currently the most popular messaging app. Over the years, the company behind it has introduced numerous changes and innovations to enhance the user experience. Now, a new feature is on the horizon for the Android version, aimed at assisting many people in their daily lives. WhatsApp is set to receive a scanning function that will allow users to easily digitize documents.
WhatsApp’s New Scan Feature Integrated into Chat
This is according to the experts at “WABetaInfo,” who specialize in the app. They report a new version 2.25.18.29 in the beta program, where they discovered the new scan feature for WhatsApp. In the future, users will be able to quickly and conveniently scan and share documents, invoices, or similar items directly within the app as needed.
The upcoming feature is set to be integrated directly into the chat. Currently, images, videos, or documents can be shared using the paperclip icon, and this is where the new scan option will appear. As it stands, Meta seems to be developing two modes–an automatic and a manual one. Both will focus on the proper cropping of the respective document, which can be done either automatically or according to personal preference.

Practical and as Secure as Possible
The addition of a scan function to WhatsApp will make document digitization faster and easier. The need to use a separate app and leave the chat for this purpose will be eliminated. Furthermore, maximum security is to be ensured. The conversion of the image into a PDF file will occur entirely locally on the user’s smartphone. Only during the actual sending will it be transferred to WhatsApp’s servers–as usual, with end-to-end encryption.

However, it is not yet known when WhatsApp will officially release the scan feature for Android. It is currently still in development and thus in an early stage. Although it has been discovered in a new beta version, beta testers cannot actively try it out yet. It might take some time. Meanwhile, iPhone users are unfazed: the feature is already available for iOS.
