The manufacturer Baseus has recalled two of its power banks due to fire risk. TECHBOOK explains the details.

Technical devices are supposed to reliably perform their duties after purchase and serve as everyday helpers. However, occasionally they may not only have a defect, but due to errors, they can become truly dangerous. For this reason, a manufacturer is recalling power banks due to fire risk.

Recall Due to Fire Risk in Power Banks

This is according to a recent announcement from Baseus. The company states that it must recall power banks due to fire risk. This is because of the lithium-ion batteries installed in them, which can overheat and catch fire.

Specifically, two models are affected: the PPCXM06 and the PPCXW06 power banks, each with a 6000 milliamp-hour charge and 20 watts of power. These were primarily offered on Amazon.com and AliExpress.com in various color variants.

The PPCXM06 model was available approximately between March 2023 and April 2024 on Amazon and from June 2023 to April 2024 on AliExpress. On the company’s website, it could be purchased from about November 2022 to April 2024.

The PPCXW06 power bank was available between April 2022 and 2024 on Amazon and from May 2022 to April 2024 on AliExpress. In the company shop, it was available from November 2022 to April 2024.

Numerous Incidents Already Due to Power Banks

The manufacturer Baseus is not acting out of mere caution with its recall. In fact, 39 reports of fires involving the power banks have already been received by the manufacturer. They deeply regret these incidents.

Customers who own one of the affected models should immediately stop using the power banks due to fire risk. On a website set up specifically for the recall, they can apply for a refund. Those who cannot provide a receipt but still want compensation can expect a maximum of 36 U.S. dollars.

Consumers are responsible for disposing of the hazardous devices themselves, of course, in compliance with local regulations. Returning the power banks is not required for a refund. Additionally, anyone who received one of the devices as a gift should inform the original purchaser.
