Samsung has surprisingly quickly removed a smartphone with a unique design from its lineup. The Galaxy Z TriFold stood out mainly for its triple-foldable design. Despite significant attention and high expectations, the project now ends shortly after its launch.
The device was introduced as one of the manufacturer’s most striking models. Its design set it apart from previous foldables. However, it shows that not every new idea has long-term viability.
Market Launch and Quick Withdrawal
The TriFold initially appeared in South Korea. In January 2026, sales began in the U.S. and other markets. The price was around $2,899, which is approximately 2,500 euros. This clearly positioned the model in the premium segment.
However, the end was already apparent shortly after the introduction. According to a report, Samsung plans only one final shipment in its home market. After that, the smartphone will no longer be offered. In the U.S., sales will apparently continue until the existing devices are completely sold out.

Limited Quantities from the Start
From the start of sales, the supply was heavily restricted. The available devices sold out in minutes. This indicates less a particularly high demand and more a very low production volume. The first two shipments apparently included only a few thousand units. This shows that Samsung offered the model in limited numbers from the beginning.
An important reason for the early end is the high manufacturing costs. The production of the smartphone is considered particularly complex and expensive. Additionally, shortages in memory and other components complicate economic planning. Under these conditions, it is difficult to achieve profits with the device. The project quickly reaches economic limits.

More Experiment than Mass Product
Samsung apparently did not pursue a traditional market launch with the TriFold. The model served more as a test for new technology and possibilities. Although interested parties could purchase the device, broad availability was not intended. The Galaxy Z TriFold thus remains an example of a technical experiment that was only available in the market for a short time.
