Samsung continues to provide security updates for the Galaxy S21 FE even four years after its market launch. The manufacturer is currently rolling out a new patch that updates the smartphone to the security level of August 2026. This keeps the so-called Fan Edition protected against known vulnerabilities for the time being.

According to Samsung, the update addresses a total of 56 security vulnerabilities discovered in earlier versions of the software. However, the update does not include new features or visible changes. The download is approximately 359 megabytes in size and is being distributed gradually. Those who have not yet received the update notification can manually check for the new version under “Software Update” in the settings.

These Devices Receive the Update First

Initially, owners of the Snapdragon variant of the Galaxy S21 FE will receive the update. Therefore, it may take some time for the update to reach all devices. Samsung typically distributes updates in several waves.

It is not surprising that the smartphone continues to receive security updates. Although the Galaxy S21 FE has already passed its regular support period, it is still among the models that Samsung provides with quarterly security patches during the extended maintenance period. Samsung guarantees these updates for the device for a total of five years, with support expected to end in 2027.

Secure Until 2027

The operating system remains unchanged. The Galaxy S21 FE continues to run on One UI 8.0 based on Android 16. The new One UI 9.0 interface, which Samsung is currently rolling out to select flagship models, is not expected for this device. To use the latest AI features and future software innovations, users would need to switch to a newer smartphone.

After the security support ends, it is also recommended to switch for security reasons, especially for applications like online banking or other sensitive services.
