Samsung might give its Galaxy S series a significantly different look with the Galaxy S27. There has been speculation for some time about major changes in performance, technology, and design. Now, published design drawings suggest that the rear camera, in particular, could be redesigned.
Patent Drawings Show Altered Camera Module
As reported by the Samsung-focused website “SammyGuru,” corresponding drawings were discovered in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) database.
They show a smartphone with three cameras, whose arrangement differs from previous Galaxy S devices. Instead of vertically stacked lenses, the cameras are arranged side by side in an elongated module. With this approach, Samsung would abandon a design feature that characterizes the current Galaxy S series. The drawings indicate a horizontal alignment of the cameras.

Similar Solutions Already Exist with Other Manufacturers
A comparable design is already known from other smartphones. Google uses a horizontally running camera bar in its Pixel models.
The iPhone Air also features a horizontal camera plateau. Thus, Samsung would not introduce a new approach with a similar solution, but it would significantly change its current appearance.
It is also notable that the camera module in the published drawings only slightly protrudes from the back. This could make the device appear slimmer overall than the current Galaxy S26.
Possible Connection with Magnetic Accessories
The design change might not only have aesthetic reasons. According to the report, Samsung could also address existing limitations with magnetic accessories. Current Galaxy S models typically require a special case with a magnetic ring for Qi2 accessories. In some solutions, this is located very close to the telephoto camera.
Strong magnetic fields can affect autofocus and image stabilization. A horizontal camera bar would create more distance between the magnetic ring and camera technology and could reduce related issues.

Whether Samsung will actually launch the Galaxy S27 with this design remains open. The new smartphone generation is expected to be unveiled in early 2027. The company has not yet announced an official date. It will then become clear whether the cameras are indeed rearranged or if Samsung sticks to the previous concept.
