Apple has released iOS 27.2, addressing more than 160 security vulnerabilities on the iPhone. A number of new features are also included–but not all of them are coming to Germany.
Security Vulnerabilities in Key System Areas
According to Apple’s support page, two issues are considered particularly critical. A vulnerability in Apple Intelligence could have allowed attackers to remotely access sensitive user data. Another issue affected Hide My Email, which is supposed to conceal the real email address but could reveal it under certain circumstances.
More than 30 fixes are related to the WebKit browser technology. About 15 others concern the system core. Malicious apps could have gained unauthorized access to the camera, Bluetooth, photos, contacts, or installed apps.
Update Closes Vulnerabilities for Jailbreaks
iOS 27.2 also eliminates most of the flaws used for jailbreaking the iPhone Duo. Team Calif demonstrated such an intervention on the release day of iOS 27.0.1.
Calif researcher Stefan Esser confirmed to “MacRumors” that the new version closes a majority of the exploited vulnerabilities. In Apple’s security notes, Calif is mentioned in connection with six registered security gaps.
AI models also assisted in identifying errors. Apple credits Anthropic Research for three discoveries and OpenAI for four. The increasing number of detected vulnerabilities is also attributed to more powerful AI tools.
New Features in iOS 27.2
The Messages app gets new context-based quick actions in chats. Users can track packages or add an invitation to the calendar app with a single click. Those who want the suggestions can set them individually for calendars, reminders, notes, maps, flights, and packages.
Apple TV now allows setting up and switching between multiple user profiles. Additionally, up to four sports broadcasts can now be viewed simultaneously in the app, including events included in the Apple TV subscription.
The Phone app gets a feature that reminds users of a contact’s birthday when calling them–provided it’s stored in the Contacts app. With iOS 27.2, FaceTime calls can also use the selfie and rear camera simultaneously. For American Sign Language (ASL), there’s also the option to enable a live interpreter.

Exclusive to the iPhone Duo are support for the Apple Pencil with USB-C and Edge Light for video calls. The Shortcuts app now also allows setting up automations when the Duo is opened or closed.

Siri AI can now consider conversation histories and access additional sources, including photos in messages, voicemails, and event participants in the calendar. With iOS 27.2, Apple also unlocks SynthID, which marks AI-generated or AI-edited images with an invisible digital watermark. Since both features are tied to Siri AI, they are not available in EU countries for now.
Is It Worth Installing?
Just for the more than 160 closed security vulnerabilities, installation is worthwhile. Beyond that, iOS 27.2 also brings a few practical new features like quick actions in chats and birthday reminders in the Phone app.
iOS 27.2 is now available for iPhone 11 and newer and can be installed in Settings under “General” > “Software Update.” For iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR, Apple also provides iOS 18.7.11, which addresses a previously exploited security vulnerability.
