Some tech products stand out solely because of their price. A new charger from Hermès for the iPhone illustrates how far luxury and everyday life have diverged.
Those familiar with the Apple ecosystem know that many products are in the higher price range. This is part of the company’s strategy. In collaboration with Hermès, accessories are regularly created that deliberately focus on exclusivity. A current example is a new charging pad for the iPhone. It is called the Paddock Duo, made of leather, and comes with a matching case. The price for the combination is a hefty 3,950 euros.
Expensive and yet something is missing
For this amount, you could also finance other Apple products, such as a current MacBook Pro with top specifications or several devices from the iPhone 17 Pro series. However, something is noticeable in the package contents. While a permanently installed USB-C cable is included with the charging pad, a power adapter is not. To use the device, an additional plug is necessary. This increases the actual effort further, even though the price is already set very high.

It gets expensive with other models too
In addition to the Paddock Duo, Hermès offers other models. A version without a case is available for 1,350 euros. The Paddock Yoyo is also available at the same price. This model is more compact, can be rolled up, and is designed for the Apple Watch. Additionally, the Paddock Solo is another option. This charging pad is intended for a single iPhone and comes with a smaller case called Petit Paddock. The price here is 2,850 euros. Regardless of the model, all variants are in a very high price segment.

Hermès’ approach to materials
Another point is the choice of materials. Hermès continues to use leather for its products. Apple itself moved away from animal skin accessories several years ago. This shows different approaches to handling materials. While Apple increasingly relies on alternative solutions, Hermès remains true to its classic luxury concept.
