Google is expanding Android with a Drop to include several features for everyday use, accessibility, and communication. Gemini will soon remember where important items are located. Google Messages is also getting new options for shared notes and chat customization.
Gemini helps find items
Google already offers the “Find My Device” feature for locating devices and Bluetooth trackers. As announced in its “September Android Drop,” users will soon be able to save fixed storage locations for items there.
Users can tell Gemini where they place something and save this information in “Find My Device.” Additionally, a photo of the item or its location can be stored.

Later, users can ask Gemini for the location. Alternatively, they can directly access the stored information in the app. This feature is suitable for items that usually remain in a fixed place, such as passports or spare keys. It is expected to be available soon for devices running Android 16 or later.
The prerequisite is that both Gemini and “Find My Device” are supported in the respective country. An additional Bluetooth tracker is not required to save the location.

Smartphone describes surroundings
For blind and visually impaired users, Google is introducing Guided Vision in Gemini Live. This feature uses the smartphone camera to capture and describe objects and surroundings.
Guided Vision can also read small print on labels or menus and assist in finding items. Voice outputs help users align the camera correctly. The feature is expected to be available soon on devices with Android 9 or newer.
Another practical feature coming with Android 17 is Motion Assist. This feature aims to reduce nausea when looking at the smartphone in a moving car. Small dots appear at the edge of the screen, shifting in sync with the vehicle’s movements.
Updates in Google Messages
Starting now, notes from Google Keep can be created and edited directly in Google Messages–such as shared lists for shopping or travel.
Additionally, users can set individual backgrounds and colors for chats. The text bubbles automatically adjust their appearance to the selected background. This new feature is also already available.
