Apple typically works on several iPhone models simultaneously. Despite strict confidentiality, industry analysts often receive information from insiders revealing the company’s plans for the iPhone. A recent leak now provides more details about the iPhone 16, which could become the largest Apple smartphone to date.

iPhone 16 with Tablet-Sized Display

The information comes from well-known analyst Ross Young, who is familiar with Apple’s display supply chain. In the past, he has often been accurate with predictions for iPhones, iPads, and Android smartphones regarding screen features. Young writes in a post on Twitter that the display sizes of the iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to be “6.2x” and “6.8x” inches. The “x” refers to a second decimal place.

Young further specified the numbers to the U.S. portal “MacRumors.” According to him, the sizes are close to 6.3 and 6.9 inches. The latter would already be on the level of smaller Android tablets like the Amazon Fire 7. Young plans to present the exact details at the Display Week Keynote on May 23.

For both Pro models of the iPhone 16, the new sizes would be a significant increase compared to previous Apple smartphones. The smaller Pro’s display diagonal last increased from 5.8 to 6.1 inches with the iPhone 12 Pro. In the same generation, the iPhone 12 Pro Max jumped to 6.7 inches—0.2 inches larger than the iPhone 11 Pro Max. The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max have maintained these sizes, and the Pro models of the iPhone 15 are expected to keep the same dimensions.

More Clues About the iPhone 16 Ultra?

Young’s information supports earlier reports from the always well-informed Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman that Apple is working on an “iPhone Ultra.” According to Gurman, Apple could introduce an iPhone 16 Ultra with even more performance, battery life, and better camera technology, without a charging port—and even larger. The company aims to drive the price even higher. Apple CEO Tim Cook reportedly said in a quarterly earnings conference, “People are willing to really stretch to get the best they can afford in that category.”
