“One more thing”–that’s how CEO Tim Cook announced the iPhone X in 2017, after the iPhone presentation had seemingly concluded. The Roman numeral X stood for “Ten,” marking ten years of the iPhone. The anniversary model was intended to signify a reboot of the product line, featuring an edge-to-edge OLED display, Face ID, and a stainless steel frame. Now, less than ten years after its introduction, Apple is ending all support for the device.
No More Services at Apple
Without much fanfare, Apple has added the iPhone X to its list of discontinued or obsolete products. This means the company will no longer offer replacement parts or repairs in Apple Stores or through authorized service providers for the nine-year-old device, as noted on the support page.
When technical support for a device ends depends on how long it was sold. Often, older products remain available through resellers even after Apple discontinues them, which is why the company continues to offer support. This is why devices like the iPhone 6s, 7, and 8 are still considered vintage and receive support.
In 2023, Apple somewhat unexpectedly ended software support for the iPhone X. At five years and ten months, the model is at the lower end of the support timeframe. Modern iPhones typically receive six years of version updates. The leaders are the iPhone 6s and iPhone Xs with seven years. The iPhone 11 will break this record in September when it receives iOS 27.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro from 2018 is also no longer receiving hardware support. This is somewhat surprising, as the 13-inch variants continue to receive services. It is possible these models were still offered by Apple partners and therefore require longer support.
Apple supports its products with repairs and new replacement parts for up to five years after sales end. After that, they are considered vintage and receive technical support only as available. After seven years, Apple classifies the devices as obsolete and ends all services.

iPhone X Legacy Still Visible Today
The iPhone X set new standards in 2017. The new display with symmetrical edges on all four sides and the distinctive notch for Face ID and the front camera drew attention. The Android competition quickly began to copy the design, and in the following years, the notch became a quasi-standard. However, the symmetrical display edges were an engineering feat that Samsung only managed to replicate with the Galaxy S24–a full seven years later.
Apple itself continues to stick with the notch design, most recently with the iPhone 17e released in early 2026. Even with the base model, the company only switched from the notch to Dynamic Island in 2024 with the iPhone 15. This significantly contributes to the iPhone X still looking like a modern smartphone alongside many newer models.
