Nintendo Music was introduced at the end of 2024 as an expansion for the Switch Online service. With the streaming service, subscribers gain access to a vast music library–including the best tracks from favorite games featuring Mario, Kirby, Link, and more. Now, Nintendo is expanding the service to browsers, tablets, and vehicles with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Nintendo Music Comes to Cars

With the major app update, Nintendo Music is making its way into infotainment systems that support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This allows the streaming service to catch up with competitors like Spotify, YouTube Music, and Apple Music, which have long supported this feature.

In the announcement video for the app update, Nintendo shows how the interface looks on vehicle displays. The main view offers quick access to a personal mix, favorites, and recently played tracks. The navigation bar also allows users to access the search function, the “My Music” overview, and downloaded tracks.

As with other music streaming services, a “Now Playing” button leads directly to the current playback. Nintendo emphasizes the integrated voice control, which allows for distraction-free operation.

New Versions for Web and Tablet

In addition to Android Auto and CarPlay, Nintendo Music is also getting an interface for tablets. Nintendo is also introducing a version for web browsers. Users can access the content on computers or other devices with a browser.

This means the music can no longer only be heard via the mobile app. The app is expected to be more usable on larger screens than before, which, according to Nintendo, makes it easier to find the desired music.

No Version for Switch Consoles

Despite the new features, Nintendo Music is still missing from its own consoles. There is currently no suitable app for either the Switch or the Switch 2. This means usage remains limited to external devices. Those who want to listen to Nintendo music while playing on the console must use either the smartphone app or one of the newly added options.
