WhatsApp significantly expands the capabilities of its AI. In the new iPhone beta, PDFs, spreadsheets, and other documents can be sent directly to Meta AI for the first time and analyzed.
Meta AI Gets Long-Awaited Document Feature
Meta is equipping its WhatsApp messenger with a new AI feature previously known mainly from ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini. Users of the current iOS beta can send documents directly in the chat to Meta AI. The artificial intelligence is then supposed to analyze the content, answer questions, or create summaries. According to initial reports, supported formats include PDFs, spreadsheets, and other file types.
The new feature is currently in the WhatsApp beta for iOS with version number 26.20.10.72. Distribution is currently taking place gradually through Apple’s TestFlight program. Meta had already announced plans to make the feature available on Android as well. This development is turning WhatsApp increasingly from a traditional messenger into a platform where AI functions are more deeply integrated.

WhatsApp Closes Important Gap with ChatGPT
Until now, Meta AI was considered significantly more limited compared to competing AI systems. While users could already send texts, images, or videos to the AI, documents were off-limits. This was a clear disadvantage in everyday life: those who wanted to analyze content from PDFs or spreadsheets often had to create screenshots or switch directly to other AI services.
With the new feature, Meta aims to specifically address this weakness. Documents can now be sent directly to Meta AI via the attachment menu. The AI processes the content in the context of the conversation and is expected to provide more precise answers. This could make the messenger significantly more appealing, especially for professional or productive applications.
AI Offensive in the Messenger Market Gains Momentum
The integration also shows how aggressively Meta is advancing its AI offensive. While ChatGPT, Gemini, or Microsoft’s Copilot continue to expand their functions, WhatsApp is also trying to keep users more within its own ecosystem. The direct document analysis within a messenger could be an important step in making AI functions more practical for everyday use.
However, the feature is still in the testing phase. According to the portal WABetaInfo, only selected beta testers initially have access to the function. In the coming weeks, the distribution is expected to expand. Meta has not yet announced when the document analysis will officially be available to all WhatsApp users.
