ING is adjusting the requirements for its banking app. Originally, the transition to Android 11 or iOS 16 was scheduled for September 15, 2026. However, current app versions and bank statements indicate that the new minimum requirements are already in effect.

ING had initially announced that the minimum requirements for its banking app would be raised to Android 11 or iOS 16 starting September 15, 2026. However, current app versions and bank statements suggest that the transition has already taken place.
As reported by the portal “mobiFlip,” the current versions of the ING app for iOS (version 9.30.1) and Android (version 9.30.0) already require at least iOS 16 or Android 11. The bank’s help pages now only refer to these minimum requirements, and the previously communicated deadline of September 15 is no longer mentioned.
For users of older devices, this means that those who cannot update to iOS 16 or Android 11 may already be unable to install or use the latest version of the ING app. As an alternative, the bank continues to refer to the use of a photoTAN generator for authorizing transfers and other transactions.

Operating system version becomes crucial
ING is raising the technical minimum requirements for its app. To continue using the latest app version, at least Android 11 or iOS 16 is required. Devices with older versions will lose access to the application.
Users should first check the installed operating system version. Even relatively new smartphones may still have Android 10 or iOS 15 installed. In many cases, a system update will suffice. For the longest possible support, ING recommends Android 14 or iOS 17 or newer.

Whether the necessary version is already installed can be checked directly in the smartphone settings. On the iPhone, the information is displayed under Settings, General, and Software Update. Users can also check there if a newer version is available.
On Android, the version number is usually found under Settings, About Phone, and Android Version. Whether an update is available is shown under System, System Update, or Software Update, depending on the manufacturer.

The key is whether the smartphone in use continues to receive software updates. If no compatible update is offered, the ING app cannot be used after the transition.
Installing the current app version will not help in this case. Those who wish to continue using the application must switch to a newer device. According to the bank, authorizing transfers and other transactions via a photoTAN generator remains an alternative.
Which devices may be affected
Currently, the number of permanently affected users is expected to remain manageable. For Apple, the restriction affects older models up to and including the iPhone 7 series and the first-generation iPhone SE, as they do not receive iOS 16.
In the Android sector, the number of affected devices is also expected to be limited. According to official distribution data from Google, about 83 percent of active Android devices already use Android 11 or a newer version.
For many users, the transition is likely to have no consequences. However, those using an older smartphone or who have not performed a system update in a long time should check the installed version. This will help determine if the ING app meets the now applicable minimum requirements of Android 11 or iOS 16.
