WhatsApp is apparently working on a new feature for Android users. A special home screen widget is set to make recording and sending voice messages significantly easier. The feature is still in development and not yet available for testing. However, initial hints from a recent beta version show how the new quick access might function in the future.
Voice messages have been among WhatsApp’s most popular features for years. Millions of users rely on voice messages daily to quickly and easily convey information. The messenger has continuously expanded the feature over the years, introducing reactions to voice messages, transcripts in selected languages, and voice messages after missed calls. Now, WhatsApp is apparently working on another innovation to make recording and sending voice messages even easier.
According to reports on a recent Android beta version, WhatsApp is developing its own widget for voice messages. The feature was discovered in version 2.26.24.2, according to WABetaInfo.
Record voice messages directly from the home screen
The widget can be placed directly on the home screen. By default, it is displayed in a 3×1 size, but users can adjust the display. Visually, WhatsApp seems to opt for a simple design. A microphone icon and the prompt “Tap to record” are intended to start the recording.
After a tap, the voice recording is supposed to begin immediately. This eliminates the previous step of opening the app and selecting a chat before recording.

Fewer steps in sending
After completing the recording, users can choose who to send the voice message to. Both individual contacts and groups are possible recipients.
Apparently, the messenger is also considering the possibility of sending the same voice message to multiple contacts simultaneously. This would eliminate an additional step. Currently, users can initially send a voice message to only one contact or group. If the same message is to be sent to more recipients, it must be forwarded afterward.
Especially for people who regularly communicate via voice message, the new process could represent a significant simplification. Recording and sending would occur much more directly.

Feature not yet available
Currently, the widget is still in development. Although relevant hints are already visible in a beta version, a testing phase for users has not yet begun. When WhatsApp will officially release the feature is currently unknown. However, observers expect it to be initially activated in a future beta version.
The development aligns with further work on home screen features. Previously, hints of a separate widget were discovered, which is supposed to display activities around WhatsApp status updates. With the new quick accesses, WhatsApp seems to aim to make important features directly available on Android devices without users having to open the app first.
