With eYou, a new social network has launched that specifically aligns with European guidelines. The platform is now freely accessible and aims to be an alternative to established offerings. The focus is on topics such as data protection, transparency, and the handling of content in the feed.
Social networks are a staple in the daily lives of many people. They serve for communication, information, and entertainment. At the same time, the discussion about what rules should apply there is growing. In Europe, the focus is primarily on data protection, youth protection, and the handling of misinformation. eYou addresses these issues and aims to consider these requirements more than many well-known platforms.
Launch Available Only as an App
After a closed test phase, the public use of eYou is now beginning. According to the platform, around 50,000 users have already registered. A large portion comes from Romania, with additional users from the U.S. and Sweden. Currently, eYou is available only as an app for iOS and Android. There is no browser version at present. Those who want to try the network must use a smartphone.
Content-wise, eYou focuses on three key areas: algorithms, misinformation, and data protection. The platform states that user data is stored within Europe and protected according to GDPR guidelines. Another point is transparency in the feed. Users should be able to understand why certain content is displayed. The goal is to give more control over which posts are visible.

Fact-Checking Against Misinformation
In dealing with misinformation, eYou relies on additional features. Posts can be reviewed retroactively. Users have the option to add sources that confirm or question the content.
The background is a survey with 370 participants from the online magazine “Meedia.” According to the survey, 89 percent regularly encounter fake news on social networks. Seventy-seven percent feel manipulated by content, and 63 percent perceive a decline in quality. eYou aims to respond with more transparency and fact-checking.

Company Based in Croatia
The French entrepreneurs Jasseem Allybokus and Grégoire Vigroux founded eYou. Both have lived in Romania for several years. They celebrated the platform’s launch in Bucharest, as reported by the online magazine “Romania Insider.” However, the official company headquarters is in the Croatian capital, Zagreb.
Whether eYou can establish itself against established networks in the long term remains to be seen. Large platforms benefit from already having many contacts and content. Therefore, eYou must not only rely on its approaches but also attract enough users and content.
