Following the iPad mini with an OLED screen in October, Apple is planning more tablet innovations. In the first half of 2027, new versions of the iPad Air, standard iPad, and iPad Pro are expected to be released. Planned improvements include better screens, faster chips, and optimized cooling.
Standard iPad to Support Apple Intelligence in the Future
The standard iPad last received a refreshed model in early 2025. Currently, it is the last Apple device that does not support Apple Intelligence. The chip and memory do not meet the requirements for Apple’s AI functions.
The next generation is expected to feature the A19 processor and 8 gigabytes of memory. This will allow even the most affordable iPad to run Apple’s AI functions directly on the device.
Additionally, Apple is likely to include the N1 chip for Wi-Fi 7. Variants with cellular capabilities are expected to receive a C1X modem. Changes to the casing or screen are not planned, but new colors are possible.

What New Devices Does Apple Have in the Works?
iPad Air to Feature an OLED Screen for the First Time
The iPad Air is set for the most significant technical update, as reported by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg in his “Power On” newsletter. Following the iPad Pro and recently the iPad mini, the Air is also expected to receive an OLED screen.
The M5 processor is expected to be used. Touch ID will remain in the power button, and Face ID, as in the iPad Pro, is not planned. The 11-inch model could cost between $799 and $899, making it more expensive.
iPad Pro to Get Improved Cooling
In 2024, the iPad Pro received a new, thinner design and an OLED screen. Since then, little has changed except for the upgrade to the M5 in 2025. For the new version in 2027, Apple is focusing on thermal management. A vapor chamber is likely to be included to distribute heat more efficiently. This technology is already used in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro.
This will allow the device to maintain the performance of the new M6 chip for longer during demanding games, video editing, and intensive AI applications. The same chip is already used in the MacBook Pro 14 and Mac mini, both of which have active cooling.
Prices are expected to remain stable. The 11-inch model will start at around $1,199, and the 13-inch version at about $1,499.
