At WWDC 2026, Apple unveiled its largest AI initiative to date. At the center is the new Siri AI. However, users in the EU will have to do without it for now.
Siri becomes a true AI assistant
The most important announcement at WWDC 2026 is Siri AI. With this, Apple is moving away from the traditional voice assistant and transforming Siri into an AI system designed to communicate more naturally with users. The new version can engage in longer conversations, retain the context of a discussion, and refer back to previous statements. Additionally, voice and speech patterns can be customized.
Particularly exciting is the new “Screen Awareness” feature. Siri recognizes what content is currently displayed on the screen and can respond directly to it. There’s also a standalone Siri app that saves conversation histories and syncs them across Apple devices via iCloud. Furthermore, Siri analyzes images and camera content, recognizes objects, and answers questions about them. According to Apple, requests are processed either directly on the device or through the highly secure “Private Cloud Compute” infrastructure.

All Planned Updates in iOS 27
EU users left waiting
The big surprise came at the end of the presentation: Siri AI will not be available on iPhones and iPads in the European Union for the time being. Apple attributes this to the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The company believes that EU regulations would require granting competing AI systems extensive access to personal data and device functions, posing privacy and security risks.
Proposed solutions from Apple were rejected by the European Commission. As a result, Apple has not provided a timeline for the introduction of Siri AI on iPhones and iPads in Europe. However, EU users won’t be completely left out: Siri AI will be available on Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro in Europe.
iOS 27 and macOS 27 focus on AI and refinement
In addition to Siri AI, Apple also introduced iOS 27 and macOS 27. There are no major design overhauls; instead, the focus is on performance improvements and AI features. The “Liquid Glass” design now includes a slider that allows users to adjust the transparency of the interface. At the same time, new Apple Intelligence features are being integrated into apps such as Safari, Photos, and password management.
Child protection is also being expanded. Parents can more easily manage children’s accounts, restrict app usage, and approve new contacts. The Screen Time feature gains additional tools for controlling games, social networks, and entertainment apps. On the Mac, macOS 27 “Golden Gate” marks the end of the Intel era: New features are only available for devices with Apple Silicon. WWDC 2026 clearly shows the direction: Artificial intelligence will become the center of the entire Apple ecosystem.
