On October 23, 2001, Apple introduced the first iPod. For the 25th anniversary, the company has hidden an interactive replica of the music player on the Apple Music website. It appears instead of an error message when users access a non-existent subpage.
Hidden iPod on Apple Music
The virtual iPod appears, for example, at the address music.apple.com/ipod. Other invalid subpages of the website also lead to the hidden display. The feature is only available in the browser. It cannot be accessed in the Apple Music app.
The replica visually matches the first-generation iPod. It has a monochrome display, a functional scroll wheel (back then without click), and the four surrounding buttons. All familiar menu items such as Playlists, Artists, Songs, and Settings are also present.
A total of 1,029 tracks are available–though only in sections that run for about 91 seconds. Featured artists include Coldplay, Gorillaz, Daft Punk, Eminem, Britney Spears, and U2. Additionally, functions like shuffle, repeat, backlight duration, and click sounds can be adjusted.

The replica also hides the game Brick, a variant of Breakout. To access it, open the “About” section under “Settings” and press the center button for five seconds.
Brick was already a hidden feature in the original 2001 iPod. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak had contributed to the development of Breakout at Atari in the 1970s.
Demand for Older Apple Devices
The last iPod was the seventh-generation iPod Touch from 2019. In May 2022, Apple discontinued the entire product line. Interest in used devices has recently increased. Back Market reported a 48 percent rise in iPod sales since 2024 according to Newsweek.
Other historical Apple products also fetch high prices. In October 2026, a functional Apple-1 from 1976 was auctioned for around one million euros. Old Apple devices are thus gaining importance for collectors.
