Anthropic has released a new AI model. It’s called Claude Fable 5 and belongs to the so-called Mythos class. According to the company, it is the most powerful generally available AI from Anthropic to date.

Claude Fable 5 is expected to handle various tasks better than previous Claude models. The company cites software development, knowledge work, image analysis, and scientific research as examples. The new model is expected to show significant progress, especially in complex projects and long-term tasks.
With Fable 5, Anthropic is making a Mythos class model accessible to a broad user group for the first time. The original Mythos version was not publicly released due to security concerns that prevented its release, according to the company.

In the field of cybersecurity, the original Mythos version demonstrated capabilities to identify and exploit digital vulnerabilities. For this reason, Anthropic is implementing additional safeguards with Claude Fable 5.
If the system detects a request in a sensitive area, the more restricted model Claude Opus 4.8 automatically takes over. According to Anthropic, these protective mechanisms have been deliberately set conservatively to prevent the more powerful model from being used in critical situations.
Potential for Agentic Programming
Anthropic sees the greatest potential for Fable 5 and Mythos 5 in so-called agentic programming. This refers to an AI’s ability to independently plan complex software projects. Additionally, the models are expected to write program code and autonomously correct any errors that arise.
