Anker Innovations is recalling the Powercore 10000 power bank model due to potential overheating and fire hazards. Over one million devices are affected.
A recall by the Chinese manufacturer Anker Innovations is currently causing a stir. The company has recalled its Powercore 10000 power bank model due to a potential battery issue. The lithium-ion batteries in the devices could overheat, posing a significant fire risk.
Anker Power Banks Could Explode
According to Anker Innovations, over one million power banks sold in the U.S. between June 2016 and December 2022 are affected. The recall currently only applies to the U.S., but similar devices were also available in Europe. It is still unclear whether the recall will extend to our region.
Nineteen incidents have already been reported where the power bank caught fire or exploded, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Two people suffered minor burn injuries. Additionally, property damage exceeding $60,700 occurred in eleven cases.
What Customers Should Do
Anker has set up a special recall website for affected customers in the U.S. There, customers can learn how to identify the affected model and what exchange options are available. Anker offers either a replacement power bank or a $30 voucher.

It is important that owners of an affected power bank immediately take it out of service and dispose of it properly. Disposal should not be done in household trash or battery recycling boxes, but at a local hazardous waste collection site.
