The streaming service Waipu.tv allows for television viewing without a cable or satellite connection and offers a wide selection of channels—at least with a paid subscription—along with various useful additional features. All the details can be found at TECHBOOK.
Starting in July 2024, the costs for cable television in Germany can no longer be automatically billed through additional costs; more information can be found here. Tenants can then decide for themselves whether they want to continue using cable television and enter into their own contract with a provider. Alternatives include satellite reception, antenna television (DVB-T2), or streaming services over the internet. Many consumers in Germany have informed themselves about the various IPTV providers (Internet Protocol Television) as part of the reform. Waipu.tv is one of them.
Overview
What Exactly Is Waipu.tv?
“With Waipu.tv, you can watch TV in any room,” according to the service’s website. And: “even on multiple devices simultaneously.” Without cable or satellite, but over the internet, users have access to a variety of channels, most of them in HD quality.
The IPTV offering is very similar to that of competitor Zattoo. Users must first register with Waipu.tv. A stable, ideally fast internet connection is required for use. Streaming is possible on four different platforms simultaneously, from smart TVs to web browsers to smartphones or tablets. For older TVs without internet functionality, media adapters like the Amazon Fire TV Stick or TV boxes can be used.

Waipu.tv Is Available as a Stick and Now Also as a Box
Traditionally, Waipu.tv comes to the device via a stick. New to the market since March is a box from the service as an additional streaming device. It comes with various features. For example, the remote control of the Waipu.tv box can be used as a universal control for the TV. Additionally, it allows streaming content in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
In the free version of Waipu.tv, users can receive all public broadcasters. For them, the subscription is a simple alternative to traditional television. Paying customers can access a significantly larger selection of TV channels. The timeshift function allows them to pause live programming and resume it later by temporarily storing content in the cloud. If a show is completely missed, it can be found in Waipu.tv’s media library, the so-called Replay. Additionally, users can record entire series and movies in the service’s cloud storage.

The Different Packages and (Additional) Features
Waipu.tv’s complete package is called “Perfect Plus.” After a recent price increase, it costs around 14.99 euros per month after the first four weeks (which are free). As stated on the website, it offers 300+ channels—including some that are usually paid—and more than 280 of them in HD. Additionally, users have access to around 30,000 movies, series, and shows. Up to 150 hours of programming can be recorded per month. Moreover, the “Perfect Plus” subscription allows streaming on four devices simultaneously.
The cheaper package with correspondingly fewer features is called Comfort (7.49 euros per month). Here, the user can access 20,000 contents, there are 50 hours of recording time, and the option to pause programming is included. With this subscription, streaming is possible on two devices simultaneously.
Certain Extras
With some plans, it is possible to view content in UHD (Ultra High Definition). This promises a special streaming experience. Additionally, users have the option to add extra streaming services like Netflix, WOW, Disney+, or Joyn to their Waipu.tv package at a discounted rate.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Waipu.tv
Waipu.tv offers a high degree of flexibility. It is especially advantageous for larger households/families that streaming can occur on many devices simultaneously. Also noteworthy is the intuitive, easy-to-use interface. Another plus: Waipu.tv can be canceled monthly.
Weaknesses appear in reception. Without a stable internet connection, Waipu.tv’s picture quality suffers. Additionally, the service only works flawlessly in the home Wi-Fi. With the newer Waipu.tv box, a supplied LAN connection can be used, which helps somewhat. In contrast, with services like Zattoo, you can also use a different Wi-Fi or mobile data for streaming.
