Amazon continues to raise prices: Those who want to watch Prime Video without ads and in the best quality will have to dig deeper into their pockets. Since February 5, 2024, the streaming service has also been showing ads in Germany for everyone who doesn’t pay the extra 2.99 euros per month. But that’s not all.
In the U.S., there’s a new premium subscription called Prime Video Ultra that offers more features but is also more expensive. This new tier replaces the previous upgrade for ad-free streaming. Instead of $2.99 per month, customers will now pay $4.99. Those opting for the cheaper model will still have to deal with ads. With Prime Video Ultra, Amazon aims to offer all content completely without interruptions, making ad-free usage exclusive to the premium subscription.
More Features and Better Quality
Prime Video Ultra not only offers ad-free streaming. It allows up to five simultaneous streams, whereas previously only three were possible. Additionally, the download limit has significantly increased: Users can now store up to 100 movies or TV episodes offline, compared to a maximum of 25 before. The best picture and sound quality are now tied to the upgrade. UHD or 4K streaming and Dolby Atmos sound are only available with Ultra. Those without an additional subscription will have to settle for HD.
Despite the new features, the basic offering remains unchanged. Users retain access to popular series like “Fallout,” “Reacher,” or “The Boys,” as well as movies like “Red One,” “Road House,” and “The Accountant 2.”

Launch in Germany Still Uncertain
So far, Prime Video Ultra is only available in the U.S. Amazon has not yet announced when the new premium subscription will come to Germany. In the past, the company has often rolled out major changes to other markets with a delay. It is therefore possible that additional features will also be available here only at a higher price in the future. If this is confirmed, the price for ad-free streaming could rise from the current 2.99 euros to 4.99 euros per month.
